Editorial
If you're new to the editing process, fear not! I've outlined the basic progression below to clarify the misconceptions you might come across online about where to start.
You'll also find the services I offer listed underneath and a little explainer to help you decide what service is right for you.
When you know what kind of edit you're after, shoot me a message via the link below to get a quote or start the consultation process.
Structural
Your project's foundations - e.g point of view, characterisation, voice, pacing, dialogue, etc.
Copyedit
Zoom into clarity, spelling, sentence structure, grammar, cohesion, fact-checking, etc.
Proofread
The final edit that eradicates typographical errors and leftover minor issues on the line.
Structural report
Also known as a manuscript assessment, your structural report will be delivered as a PDF and address top-level issues pertaining to the scaffolding of your story. This report does not include edits directly into your manuscript (opt for a structural edit if you'd like this inclusion), but provides specific feedback and suggestions in digestible sections.
Pricing is by project, confirmed once we've discussed length and what your manuscript needs, but here's a rough per-word guide:
Up to 65,000 words $1200
Up to 80,000 words $1500
Over 100,000 words $2000
Structural edit
A structural edit comprises a structural report and mark-up directly in your manuscript to highlight issues for attention and strengths to take pride in.
Pricing is by project, confirmed once we've discussed length and what your manuscript needs, but here's a rough per-word guide:
Up to 65,000 words $2400
Up to 80,000 words $2700
Over 100,000 words $3000
Copyedit
You're ready for a copyedit once the structural issues are edited out and it's time to focus on line-level issues (which is why this is sometimes called a line edit). Here we'll iron out things like timeline, clarity, spelling and grammar, syntax, sentence structure, cohesion, readability, flow and consistency.
Pricing is by project, confirmed once we've discussed length and what your manuscript needs, but here's a rough per-word guide:
Up to 65,000 words $2750
Up to 80,000 words $3000
Over 100,000 words $3500
Proofread
The very last step in the editing process, a proofread is designed to review the typeset pages that are going to print (or on sale if in epub only, or to record if in audio). This service catches any remaining typos or leftover issues from previous rounds of editing.
Pricing is by project, confirmed once we've discussed length and what your manuscript needs, but here's a rough per-word guide:
Up to 65,000 words $1000
Up to 80,000 words $1200
Over 100,000 words $1500
Submission package review
A submission package includes your cover (or query) letter, a full synopsis, a short blurb and your author bio, and is typically what industry folk see before even getting to your manuscript. Often, writers do not take the time to finesse these first-impression, make-or-break elements. So let's work together to craft an attention-grabbing submission package that introduces you professionally and captures reader interest so you stand above the crowd.
Pricing is by project, confirmed once we've discussed the elements of your submission package. Please be sure to let me know which documents need editing, which you need help creating, and any other useful info about where you're at with the submission package.
This service can be added on to an editing service.
Publishing consult
This is for anyone who has questions about the industry, the editing process, or the craft of writing. You don't need to have a manuscript ready to book a publishing consult, just let me know what your questions are when booking in to make the most of our time.
Consultations will be held on Zoom.
30 minutes $50
50 minutes $80
